GraceKids Continue to Excel

Plano, Tx- This past weekend five kids earned the GKU Scholar medal at 5th grade graduation on Apr. 29!

GraceKids University Scholars or GKU was started in 2009 to encourage and reward kids as they strive for excellence in Christian education. We ask all of our K-5th graders to master 10 objectives by the end of their 5th grade year.  These objectives include reading through a children’s Bible, and reciting scripture passages such as Ps. 23 and The Lord’s Prayer.

The 5 kids who completed all 10 objectives received an engraved medal recognizing their commitment to the GKU program. The graduates this year were Evan, Alyssa, Laide, Kathryn and Maddison.

Soon we will unveil our GraceKids “Walk of Fame” where each medalist will have a star with their name on it located on a tile in the kids foyer.  If a child enters GraceKids as a kindergartener, he or she will have 6 years to complete the objectives.  Because some kids can master these goals long before 5th grade graduation, we are going to announce our Masters program with an additional set of objectives for those wanting an extra challenge. At GraceKids we recognize that kids excel and are rewarded in academics, athletics, music, and dance—so why not motivate kids to hide God’s Word in their heart, too!

Lives Enriched at Mother’s Day Luncheon

Plano, Texas- REAL Singles Ministry along with Single Parent Advocate hosted a single mothers appreciation dinner on Saturday, May 12^th. The goal was to bless the single mom’s located around our community as well as let them know that God loves them and has a good plan for their future regardless of their current circumstances.

Our Key Note speaker was Mrs.Chrissy Broeske. Mrs. Broeske was the Mrs. Dallas County International 2012 winner and serves as the Pageant Director for the Building Inner Beauty Pageant. Her message was one of hope and the importance of helping women and girls realize that they are precious in the sight of our Heavenly Father.

137 guests attended the luncheon and they enjoyed a catered meal. Along with the meal they received a number of donated gifts / prizes, 25lbs of food from Life Message, and other items including a free family portrait provided by Sunflower Photography to make their Mother’s Day extra special.

We were honored to have about 15 single moms and their kids from The Family Place, a domestic violence shelter located in Dallas, who otherwise would not have had a Mother’s Day. One mom in particular said, “This was the first Mother’s Day she had ever had,” even though her kids were between 8-10. The joy that filled the room was overwhelming.

Congratulations to our 2012 GraceKids University Scholar Medalists:  Alyssa Cuff, Evan Akins, Kathryn Smith, Laide Dahunsi, and Maddison Williams. They mastered all 10 objectives and earned the scholar medal.  Also, we recognized those kids who had read through the Bible with a special medal:  Riley Parker, Alyssa Cuff, Evan Akins, Kathryn Smith, Laide Dahunsi, and Maddison Williams.
